Kukri (Khukuri)
There are a lot of famous knives around the world they are - Bowie Knife, Scimitar, Stiletto, Sword, Samurai and so on. These all have great historical and existing mythical importance. Kukri (Khukuri) is the one of the famous among them. Kukri's legend is very old as Gurkhas History in the world. It is more popular and loved by Nepalese, because It is the National Knife of the Nepal. Magars and Gurungs in the west and Rais and Limbus in the eastern part of the Nepal are known as Gurkhas, these tribes are still working with British, Indian and Nepalese Armies and they always carry a kukri during security related jobs and their traditional & auspicious occasions. Therefore kukri also known as Gurkha's Blade.

If we see the history of kukri to been so popular in the world, there are some example which we can mention in this connection.  When British had captured India and were looking to capture Nepal to make to make easy trade with Tibet, Nepalese People fight with armful British Soldiers with Khukuries (Kukries) and save Nepal from being slave. So, from that time, Brave Nepalese People got Name of ‘Gurkhas’. Similarly there are many other examples of Warfield where Gurkhas has fight with Khukuri (kukri) and got victory defeating their enemy who were full of modern arms. The First World War and Second world were the burning example of it.

Kukri is carried in a wooden and leather stealth. There are also two tiny knives inserted behind the main kukri they called Karda and Chakmak.
Karda: The small knife inserted behind the stealth, it is used to cut small stuffs.
Chakmak: It is the sharpener tucked behind the stealthy. It is used as a flint maker.

Kukri is a part of many traditional rituals among not only Gurkhas but also various ethnic groups of Nepal. Nepalese national wardrobe Daura Surwal could not be complete without holding the Kukri. During Traditional Wedding Ceremony the Groom also has to hold kukri.

Kukri is designed primarily for chopping but it can also used to stab. The size and shape differs a great deal. Some kukri is quite straight and some are highly curved with smooth spines. Its designs are huge differences in terms of sizes, length and blade thickness, depending upon ethnic group and kukri manufacturer. Kukri usually have hard wood handle made by special wood or buffalo horn. The Handle is fastened with tree sap known as 'Laha'. Size of spine is 5 mm to 10 mm by the handle. Length of blade could be 4 inch to 36 inch. Small and medium size kukris are used as tools whereas huge kukris are used as gift item and home decorative.
